Cheryl K. Lipton, Esq.

Cheryl has more than twenty 
years of legal experience, primarily
dedicated to research and writing. 
She spent ten years as an appellate
attorney with two government
agencies where she wrote more than 100 appellate briefs and argued over 35 cases in the Illinois Appellate Court, First District and Illinois Supreme Court.

Cheryl also spent six years researching and writing
a variety of legal, training and marketing materials
for attorneys in the labor and employment group of
the national law firm, Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Some of
Cheryl’s work has been published in Bloomberg
News and Law Strategist.

Cheryl currently teaches an Expert Learning and Writing for the Practice of Law classes at The John Marshall Law School and has previously taught legal writing at DePaul Law School, She also completed a on-year clerkship in a state trial court in Maryland.

Cheryl is also very active in the Pro Bono Network and works on a variety of projects to help low income individuals.  She is also responsible for writing all of the newsletters and promotional materials.  

Cheryl graduated from Northwestern University
with a B.A. from the Honor's Program in American
Culture and she obtained her law degree cum laude
from the Washington College of Law at American
University. She lives with her family in the Chicago
metropolitan area.

Melanie H. Berkowitz, Esq.

Melanie has over fourteen years
experience as both a traditional
attorney and a legal and business
writer.

She began her legal career specializing in litigation
and labor and employment at Sonnenschein, Nath
and Rosenthal in Chicago before clerking for the
Honorable Marvin Aspen, then Chief Judge for the
Northern District of Illinois, and the Honorable
Magistrate Michael Mason, also of the Northern
District. While clerking, Melanie also taught legal
research and writing at The John Marshall Law
School in Chicago.

After her clerkships, Melanie worked for national
law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP researching and writing
a variety of legal, training and marketing materials
for the firm’s 200+ member labor and employment
group. She has also been writing for Monster.com
for over six years, primarily on workplace issues
related to labor and employment and human
resources.

Melanie graduated magna cum laude from the
University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in International
Relations and obtained her law degree from
The New York University School of Law, where she
was a member of the Order of the Coif. She lives
with her family in the suburbs of Chicago.
